In days of yore I would have ordered a bowl, bot a cup, or, after testing a cup, ordering another. I started the meal with a cup of clam chowder. I had a local ale on draft that hit my spot well. She did, too, trying to figure out what was involved in the complex mélange of flavors. My wife perused the menu drinking a "First-Mate Margarita." I had a taste and found it unusual and enticing. The venue bespeaks the resto's soul: Welcoming friendly comfortable no in-your-face, high-end, look-at-this-and-feel-the-confiscatory-pricing-is-worthwhile crap. If you do not eat here, you are missing what could very well be the very best restaurant on Cape Cod and in its neighboring environs.
